The Second Commandment: Though Shall Know Who is Playing

Injury Wire is Key.
My God do I laugh when I'm facing an opponent who starts a player who is injured, or worse,  on a bye. They are just begging me (and you) to take their money. In the "normal" fantasy world this error is forgivable, but in the weekly buy anyone leagues like Fanduel.com and DraftKings.com it is the height of stupidity.

Here is a $100 Tip. Pay attention to the injury wire up to the last minute. Many, many, many weekly fantasy players draft a team and then forget about it until gameday. Say you (and the world) bought Calvin Johnson and an hour before kickoff you hear he won't play (as happened in Week 5 in 2013). You have time to switch for another player. You paid attention. Others did not. You have a massive advantage.

PAY ATTENTION TO LAST MINUTE LINEUP CHANGES.

If you start players who are not playing you will not win. Simple, yet seemingly complicated to many a weekly fantasy player. Don't be a Fanduel Dummy.

The First Commandment: Though Shall Know Your Scoring System.

Fanduel's Scoring System.

Nothing, I mean NOTHING will kill your chances of winning at Fanduel.com or Draftstreet.com more than not knowing how your players get you points. Is it a .5 PPR game? Do you get bonus points for 100+ receiving yards? Are there minuses for interceptions and fumbles? In the incremental scoring system that weekly fantasy games use a half a point can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Thankfully it is easy to understand the scoring system of every weekly NFL league website. You just need to take a few minutes to study them and then apply them to your strategy. In fact, I'd find one of the many websites that allow you to input your own scoring system into their weekly projections like Fantasy Football Today or Fantasy Sharks and input the scoring system for any of the weekly fantasy sites you frequent. It makes research so much quicker, easier and accurate.

I cannot overestimate the power of truly drafting your team with a deep understanding of the scoring system. Know it and win. Ignore it and lose.
