Buy High/Buy Low: Quarterbacks and Running Backs for NFL Week 8

Megatron, Bush and Bell. Oh, My.

I thought Week 6 in the NFL was an injury fest, but it had nothing on Week 7. I won't rehash all the season ending and franchise killing injuries here, but my What The Hell Was That column dives into the horrid depths of murky despair that many an NFL fan and daily fantasy player were left cringing after Week 7.

But that's the past. Now it is time for Week 8 Buy High/Buy Low: Quarterbacks and Running Backs

Buy High are players that will cost you, but that are so sure to perform up to, or even exceed, their cost that they are worth the price. Find a few of these and build your team's core.

Buy Low are players who have a low cost, but who are highly likely to outperform their low cost. These are the sleepers of the week. These are the players that can win you the week.

Quarterbacks: Buy High

Matthew Stafford: Fanduel - $9,200 : DraftKings - $8,800 : DraftStreet - $14,977
Dallas and their third worst pass defense comes to Detroit and Matthew Stafford will throw, throw, throw against them. I like this matchup a lot this week. Calving is back. Bush and Bell can catch out of the backfield. Expect a lot of scoring in this game.
Projections: 355 passing yards and 4 TDs.

Drew Brees: Fanduel - $9,600 : DraftKings - $10,200 : DraftStreet - $16,851
Brees had a bye last week and while Jimmy Graham is likely to be questionable at best, Brees is facing the lowly Buffalo defense who have allowed 15 TD passes and nearly 2,000 passing yards. He will once again prove why he is one of the best money QBs in the league.
Projections: 320 passing yards and 4 TDs.

Other Solid Options: RG III, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo and Peyton Manning (Duh).

Quarterbacks: Buy Low

NOTE: I do not like most of the Buy Low QB candidates this week. Buy at your own risk.

Eli Manning: Fanduel - $6,800 : DraftKings - $6,800 : DraftStreet - $12,124
Eli is the only Buy Low I'd actually buy this week. He;ll throw an INT or four, but he will also have some good yardage and a good possibility for three TDs against a Philly D that likes to give up both. Maybe Eli's confidence gets a boost from last weeks win.
Projections: 273 passing yards and 3 TDs.

Ryan Tannehill: Fanduel - $7,000 : DraftKings - $6,700 : DraftStreet - $11,210
The Patriots are in trouble. Teams can throw against them and Tannehill will get that chance. However, The Patriots do not lose two games in a row. If Aqib Talib returns then I would definitely not use Tannehill, but if he doesn't he is an OK play.
Projections: 235 passing yards and 2 TDs.

Other Decent Options: Thad Lewis, maybe.

Buy High: Running Backs

Reggie Bush: Fanduel - $8,100 : DraftKings - $7,300 : DraftStreet - $12,320
I love Bush this week. The bye will get him healed up and he goes against Dallas who give up the third most receiving yards and over 100 rush yards a game. Bush is the DUAL threat in the NFL and he should see lots of work even with Joique Bell vulturing some touches.
Projections: 105 rushing yards and 1 TD and 75 receiving yards and 1 TD.

Frank Gore: Fanduel - $7,400 : DraftKings - $7,200 : DraftStreet - $11,878
Frank Gore has quietly put up some impressive numbers this season. Now he gets worst in the league against the run Jacksonville Jaguars who allow 150+ rush yards per game. Expect a lot of Gore in both aspects of the offensive game plan.
Projections: 130 rushing yards and 2 TDs and 55 receiving yards.

Other Solid Options: Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy.

Buy Low: Running Backs

NOTE: I love the Buy Low running backs this week. Spend low here and Buy High at QB.

Roy Helu: Fanduel - $5,700 : DraftKings - $3,300 : DraftStreet - $5,751
Alfred Morris was supposed to be the bell cow in this offense, but it seems that it may now be the dreaded RBBC (running back by committee). This means that Helu, who had a stunning 3 TDs last week, could see some nice work, especially against the Broncos who are good against the run, but bad against the pass. Helu catches the ball better than Morris and is more than worth the piddling $3,300 he'll cost you on Draftkings.com.
Projections: 45 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards and 1 TD.

Darren Sproles: Fanduel - $6,600 : DraftKings - $6,300 : DraftStreet - $9,971
The Saints will miss Jimmy Graham if he cannot go and Sproles will be the main fill in for Drew Brees when the Bills come to the Big Easy. The Bills allow the second most rushing yards and have given up 278 passing yards per game and 15 receiving TDs.
Projections: 55 rushing yards and 105 receiving yards and 2 TDs.

Other Solid Options: Jaquizz Rodgers, Joique Bell and  Eddie Lacy.

For sites that give 1 point per reception like DraftKings.com and StarStreet.com those totals will be located in the parentheses next to the .5 ppr scores.

Note: Some website give bonus points for 300+ passing yards and 100+ rushing and receiving yards. These bonuses have not necessarily been calculated into weekly scores.

I Beat Condia on StarStreet.com

I Beat Condia. Whooop!

Since I first started playing daily fantasy sports I have know the name Condia. A mystery man (or woman?), a daily fantasy wizard, a legend who plays and wins a ridiculous amount of games and money each week.

So when I discovered that one of my StarStreet.com games ( a three person winner takes all match) had me facing the living legend I felt gut churning excitement and panic. Could I beat him. If I did would I win more than the $3 I would add to my wallet. The answers as it turned out were yes.

I Want One.

The game was close and it took my best lineup of the week to beat him. And it wasn't by much. Just under 7 points separated Condia and I. My Tony Gonzalez call hurt me, while my Andrew Luck call won me the day. Condia hit double digits across the board, which gives us all a hint at his strategy. Consistency with upside. He ignore names, doesn't listen to the hype and goes with facts and precognition. Or maybe he has that Sports Almanac from Back to the Future.

 In the big picture it means nothing, especially I am sure to Condia. Yet, for a small moment I got to feel like I could hang with the big boys of daily fantasy. Now if I just had Condia's bankroll.

What the Hell Was That? NFL Week 7

A Class Act and a Sad Day.

Each week in the National Football League odd, crazy, horrible and amazing things happen. In this column I will talk about the weekend that just was in the NFL. I'll detail the absurd, attack the stupid and rejoice in the great.

The Fifth Horseman Strikes Again
So last week I railed against the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse who is named Injury. Who could have known that Week 6 was just an appetizer for this abominable rider. While last week featured a bevy of injuries, few outside of the season ending one to Jerod Mayo figure to alter the fate of a franchise.

Then came Week 7 and these season ending injuries.

• Reggie Wayne - WR: Indianapolis Colts - Torn ACL - Out for Season
• Sam Bradford -  QB: St. Louis Rams - Torn ACL - Out for Season
• Doug Martin - RB: Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Torn Labrum - Out for Season

Other Key Injuries.

• Jay Cutler - QB: Chicago Bears - Groin Injury - Timetable Unkown
• Jermichael Finley - TE: Green Bay Packer - Neck Injury - Taken to ICU - Timetable Unknown
• Nick Foles - QB: Philadelphia Eagles - Head Injury - Timetable Unknown 
• Arian Foster - RB:Houston Texans - Hamstring - Timetable Unknown

More than any other factor, injuries can make or break a teams season.  Unlike some Houston Texans fans, most NFL fans do not cheer injuries even when you just traded Doug Martin for Giovani Bernard and Justin Blackmon. Ouch, sorry Brandon.

The All New Tuck Rule: The Bum Rush Rule?
The New England Patriots were the victim of a little known and confusing rule that altered the fate of

Tuck This Rule.

the game. I'll call it the Bum Rush rule. If you watched the game you were probably confused or enraged. You weren't alone.

So was Chris Jones, the rookie DT who committed the offense. So was Coach Billichick, the entire viewing crowd, the officials of the New Orleans/New England game who didn't call a penalty on a similar play the previous week and even NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino who explained the new rule in a video. Explained it differently than the later revised rule posted on NFL.com.

So, a new rule. No big deal right? Well it wouldn't be if those who made it understood it. Within two hours of the end of the Jets/Patriots game the above video was removed and the rule online was reworded. Some may argue that both wordings suggest that Jones actions deserved to be penalized, but the confusion it generates is fully on the NFL. They should man up and apologize.

As for Pats fans. Move on. I have. Any Given Sunday, anything can happen. This week we got bit by a poorly worded rule. We can cry conspiracy, but it will just make us the 2013 version of the forever bitter Raiders fans. Instead we should cry stupidity and make the rest of the season our statement. The NFL messed up, knew it and has yet to admit it. Let it be their shame, not ours.

Chris Long Vs. Zima
Carolina receiver Steve Smith is often closely associated with controversy. This week his TD celebration earned him a punch to the helmet courtesy of Chris Long. Long was ejected, exchanged middle finger extensions with Panther's fans and got bonked on the head by a can of Zima.

"Thanks Carolina fans 4 the flipped birds+few bottles to the head. Sticks n stones may break my bones but aluminum zimas will never hurt me." - Chris Long via Twitter.

So what are we to take from this? Fans in Carolina like to flip people off? Chris Long hasn't figured out punching a helmet hurts him more than Steve Smith? They still make Zima AND people still drink it???? I thought Carolinians were supposed to be tough Southerners? Good news Zima cans to the head don't penetrate helmets anymore than beefy lineman's fists.

No Name Studs of the Week: Jordan Reed,Harry Douglas and Jarret Boykin
These guys all stepped into a primary role for their teams due to injuries and slayed it. If you used these guys as low cost options this week and spent your savings on Calvin Johnson, AJ Green and the like you may just have won some money. Just remember I told ya so.

Things You Oughta Know: Tips and Hints for NFL Week 7

Fantasy football is a game of stats. Balls are caught, yards are run, TD passes are made and points are accrued. Whomever has the most points wins. Whomever wins gets the money. In some cases a lot of money.

It is my job to give you the information so that you can best predict who will have better stats. It is a difficult job. It is nothing less than attempting to predict the future. To make these predictions I do not commune with a soothsayer, cast lots or flip tarot cards, though perhaps I should.

Instead I study trends, investigate match-ups and explore history. These tidbits help inform my Buy High/Buy Low Column as well as my Optimized Lineups, but sometimes they don't make it into those articles.

Things You Oughta Know is my opportunity to share this information.

Things You Oughta Know NFL Week 7

Quarterbacks

•  Philip Rivers is third in overall fantasy points and is averaging 21.1 points per contest. That's a higher average than anyone above him not named Peyton. Now he gets the Jags, who have looked better in recent weeks and with Justin Blackmon lighting it up, the Chargers will need to throw to keep their lead.
• Tony Romo is going up against the Philly D that has allowed over 300 yards passing per game and 13 TDs this year. Romo to Dez should be a fun thing to watch.
• Nick Foles against Romo's third worst in the league Dallas D. See above and repeat, excpet make it 14 TDs allowed for Dallas.
• Peyton comes back to Indy. Start Andrew Luck. Nuff said.
• Cam Newton finally showed up with 30+ points. St. Louis can't stop the run or the pass. Play him again.

Running Backs

• Fred Jackson has 344 yards and 4 TDs and 21 catches for 144 yards WITH consensus pre-season stud CJ Spiller sharing time.  Miami's D isn't as good against the run as people imagine. Jackson should shine.
• Brandon Jacobs is back. Not sure I buy it either, but if he is going to repeat his 100+ performance from last week anytime soon it will be this week against the Vikings who allow 110 yards a contest. New York needs to win at least once, don't they?
• Giovani Bernard looks to be the dual threat back. His 20 catches, 201 yards and 2 TDs  mixed with 237 rush yards and 2 TDs make him a nice solid play against Detroit's suspect run D

Wide Receivers

• In the two games since Justin Blackmon has returned from his suspension he has 19 catches for 326 yards and 1 TD. In TWO games for the Jacksonville Jaguars. This week Blackmon goes against the San Diego Chargers who are 28th in the league in yards allowed to pass catchers. They've also allowed 10 TD catches. AND Cecil Shorts may sit. 
• Keenan Allen has gone over 100 yards with a TD in each of the past two games. He is the rejuvenated Philip Rivers most trusted target. He goes against the Jags who have given up 14 TD passes.
• Philly and Dallas are two of the worst three teams against the pass. They play each other in Week 7. Dez Bryant and DeSean Jackson play on those teams. Both are in the Top 6 for receiving TDs.
• Washington's D is bad. Brandon Marshall has 40 catches for 486 yards and 5 TDs.

NFL Week 7 Fanduel Optimized Lineup (Expert)

Yeah I Don't Even Know Who I Am.

Fanduel Expert leagues are hard. They are impossible when you get killed by injuries and general sucking. My advice, unless you are a true, bonified expert then I'd stick with my Standard Optimized Lineup or Beginner Optimized Lineup. You've been warned, buying Thaddeus Lewis is not for the faint of heart.

Fanduel Standard $60,000 Optimized Lineup

QB: Thaddeus Lewis $5,500 BUF@MIA
RB: Knowshon Moreno $7,700 DEN@IND
RB: LeSean McCoy $9,500 DAL@PHI
WR: Harry Douglas $4,800 TB@ATL
WR: Golden Tate $4,700 SEA@ARI
WR: Keenan Allen $4,500 SD@JAC
TE: Tony Gonzalez $6,800 TB@ATL
K: Robbie Gould $5,200 CHI@WAS

QB Analysis
Who foresaw Thaddeus Lewis' amazing day against the Bengals last week? Put your hands down you big fibber. Expert leagues are tough, so you need to take a flyer somewhere, usually several somewheres. Watch the news on his foot. If he sits use Weeden instead.

RB Analysis
Knowshon Moreno has been a stud and Peyton will lean heavily on him this week against his old team. I chose McCoy over Charles for one reason, Charles cost more and in an Expert league and I couldn't afford him.

WR Analysis
This week I am buying low at wide receiver. But that doesn't mean I am tossing my $ away. These cheap options should score nearly as much as the big boys, but cost you a lot less.

Atlanta has been destroyed at the wide receiver position and now it is the Harry Douglas show. He isn't a speedster, but if you see my Buy Low WR column this week you'll see he has a great chance to explode this week.

Golden Tate was a preseason sleeper and this is the week against the Cardinals I think he delivers on that. Lets hope Petersen covers somebody else.

Keenan Allen has looked like Calvin Johnson the last two weeks. This week he gets the Jags who could make me look like Calvin Johnson (well maybe). Expect some great yards and a Td from this low cost buy.

 TE Analysis
Jimmy Graham is on a bye and injured and coming of a big fat zero. Enter the ageless one Tony Gonzalez and his increased role in the Atlanta offense now that Julio Jones is out and Roddy White suspect. Big numbers for Gonzo.

K Analysis
Robbie Gould was money last week. This week he'll be money again.

D Analysis
Last week the Kansas City defense outscored Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning and just about everybody. They go to Houston whose QBs have thrown a pick 6 FIVE weeks in a row. Is it too much to ask for two this week? Oh yeah, lotsa sacks too.

Injuries killed my Week 6 NFL Standard Fanduel Optimized Lineup. This week I've made my pleas, dig a good mojo dance and engaged a seer to peer into the future. Okay I made up the last part, but I am a mighty snazzy dancer.

I love my Week 7 Optimized Lineups and I expect to bad my bank account come Tuesday morning. Follow my advice and you can join me.

QB Analysis
If I told you seven weeks ago that Philip Rivers would be a Top 3 player regardless of position you would have laughed, made shot drinking motions behind my back and ignored anything I said thereafter. To date he has thrown for 1,847 yards and 14 TDs. Expect those numbers to increase significantly against the Jags.

RB Analysis
Lets face it LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Charles are amazing badasses. I loved being able to afford both this week. Top backs against suspect run defenses. Sign me up. "That's all I have to say about that."

WR Analysis
This week I am buying low at wide receiver. But that doesn't mean I am tossing my $ away. These cheap options should score nearly as much as the big boys, but cost you a lot less.

NFL Week 7 Fanduel Optimized Lineup (Beginner)

Take That Peyton.

WOW. What the Hell Happened in Week 6? Injuries killed my lineups and I was not a chipper fella. If providence holds then this week should be less of a cluster@#%&. Lets pray to the fantasy gods that they are kind in Week 7.

The New Orleans Saints and the Oakland Raiders are on the bye so some standard must plays are not seeing action this week. Nowhere is this more obvious than at the tight end position. Weekly Buy High Jimmy Graham (except last week) injury hopefully won't last beyond the bye. Until then look elsewhere.

QB Analysis
I nearly went with Cam Newton here. He is a feature QB in this week's Buy High column and I think he'll continue what he started last week. However, Andrew Luck has been consistent money and this week the emotions will run high. So will the balls against the Broncos who allow more passing yards than anyone int he NFL.

RB Analysis
Lets face it LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Charles are amazing badasses. I loved being able to afford both this week. Top backs against suspect run defenses. Sign me up. "That's all I have to say about that."

WR Analysis
Man O' Man do I love this week. Victor Cruz and Justin Blackmon could easily top the charts this week and Keenan Allen will be a Top 15 play. 300 total yards and 5 TDs are within reach. For a total cost of $18,800???  Not Convinced?

Justin Blackmon has more targets and more yards over the last two weeks than any other pass catcher. He'll double his season TD output this week against the San Diego Chargers who have given up 1.742 yards and 10 TDs to opposing pass catchers.

Victor Cruz has been quiet the past few weeks but this week the Vikings and there 13 Td passes allowed come to town. Salsa fans rejoice, you'll see some dancing this Sunday.

Keenan Allen has looked like Calvin Johnson the last two weeks. This week he gets the Jags who could make me look like Calvin Johnson (well maybe). Expect some great yards and a Td from this low cost buy.

TE Analysis
Jimmy Graham is on a bye and injured and coming of a big fat zero. Enter the ageless one Tony Gonzalez and his increased role in the Atlanta offense now that Julio Jones is out and Roddy White suspect. Big numbers for Gonzo.

K Analysis
Robbie Gould was money last week. This week he'll be money again.

D Analysis
Last week the Kansas City defense outscored Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning and just about everybody. They go to Houston whose QBs have thrown a pick 6 FIVE weeks in a row. Is it too much to ask for two this week? Oh yeah, lotsa sacks too.

Buy High/Buy Low: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends for NFL Week 7

Please Don't Drop the Ball.

 Week 6 of the 2013 NFL season was a perfect example of how chaotic the wide receiver and tight end positions can be. The top of the stats was dominated by a couple of wide receivers who have spent part of the season suspended in Justin Blackmon and Josh Gordon. A look at the Top 20 in receiving yards for Week 6 will make any longtime fantasy prognosticator scratch their heads.

I reiterate my theory on wide receivers. Spend your money elsewhere and go for low cost high upside.

Oddly the opposite is the case with tight ends. If you listened to me last week you did not buy Jimmy Graham, and while I'll take credit for it, even I didn't foresee a big fat zero in his stat line. Nor did I predict that Vernon Davis would annihilate the Arizona Cardinals. My sleeper Garret Graham apparently spent most of the game sleeping.

Yet, this week with Jimmy Graham on a bye (and injured) the top of the crop at TE becomes a bit more fuzzy. You can get good value on a tight end and spend it on your running backs instead.

Understand  these principals when selecting your wide receivers and tight ends.

Buy High are players that will cost you, but that are so sure to perform up to, or even exceed, their cost that they are worth the price. Find a few of these and build your team's core.

Buy Low are players who have a low cost, but who are highly likely to outperform their low cost. These are the sleepers of the week. These are the players that can win you the week.

Wide Receivers: Buy High

DeSean Jackson : Fanduel - $8,200 : DraftKings - $7,700 : DraftStreet - $13,103
It doesn't really matter who is tossing Jackson the ball. In fact, after last week where Jackson caught two TDs, it may be better if Nick Foles gets the start again. Philly may win this game. If they do, Jackson will have to come up big.
Prediction: 120 yards receiving and 1 TD.

Dez Bryant : Fanduel - $8,200 : DraftKings - $7,700 : DraftStreet - $13,103
Another receiver from the same game who, like Jackson, is going against a team that has difficulty stopping players from putting up big receiving numbers. This should be an entertaining shootout and Dez will see a lot of looks.
Prediction: 110 yards receiving and 1 TD.

Other Solid Options: Justin Blackmon, Victor Cruz, Reggie Wayne and Brandon Marshall.

Wide Receivers: Buy Low

Keenan Allen :  Fanduel - $4,500 : DraftKings - $4,600 : DraftStreet - $8,415
How is this guy still so cheap? Under 5K after two straight 100+ 1 TD games. Put this guy in your lineup. Even if he only gets half that total he'll be worth the cost. Oh yeah, he's going against the Jags and his QB Rivers is looking like a pro bowler.
Prediction: 100 receiving yards and 1 TD.

Harry Douglas :  Fanduel - $4,800 : DraftKings - $4,600 : DraftStreet - $8,415
Douglas isn't a burner, but he is a decent receiver who will have to step up now that Julio Jones is done of the season and Roddy White is "well who knows." Against Tampa he'll bring his A game.
Prediction: 70 Receiving yards and 1 TD.

Other Solid Options: Julian Edelman, Terrance Williams and Kendall Wright.

10 + Catches?

Tight Ends: Buy High

Tony Gonzalez : Fanduel - $7,000 : DraftKings - $6,800 : DraftStreet - $11,282
We all saw what he did the the Patriot's a few weeks ago. Now that White and Jones are injured it is up to Harry Douglas and Gonzalez. Who do you think Matt Ryan looks to the most? Gonzo will make you happy against the Bucs.
Prediction: 100 yards and 1 TD

Antonio Gates : Fanduel - $6,700 : DraftKings - $5,700 : DraftStreet - $10,652
It has been a while since I recommended Gates for anything. But he goes against the Jags, has a rejuvenated Philip Rivers looking for him and should roll this week. He is a lower cost Buy High.
Predictions: 90 yards and a TD

Other Solid Options: Jordan Cameron, Julius Thomas and Jason Witten.

Tight End: Buy Low

Charles Clay : Fanduel - $4,900 : DraftKings - $4,500 : DraftStreet - $8,819
Miami likes to throw to their tight ends and Buffalo likes to give up receiving yards (1,754) and receiving TDs (12). This could be a great day for Double C. 
Prediction: 70 yards and 1 TD

Jordan Reed : Fanduel - $4,500 : DraftKings - $4,100 : DraftStreet - $5,781
In a few years we may talk about Jordan Reed in the same voice we talked about Aaron Hernandez before he was arrested for murder. Same college, same home state, same skill set. Hopefully NOT the same shitty personality. Chicago has given up more yards than people think. Reed will get a lot of them.
Prediction: 60 receiving yards and 1 TD.

Other Solid Options: Scott Chandler, Kyle Rudolph and Joseph Fauria

Quarterbacks: Buy High

Cam Newton: Fanduel - $8,700 : DraftKings - $9,000 : DraftStreet - $14,840
After five weeks of dismal stats Newton blew up last week. In Week 7 he goes against a St. Louis team that ranks 30th against the run and 23rd against the pass. Newton likes to run. Newton likes to pass. He'll have fun doing both.
Prediction:  290 passing yards and 2 TDs and 70 rushing yards and 1 TD.

Andrew Luck: Fanduel - $8,700 : DraftKings - $8,400 : DraftStreet -$13,676
Luck has been an under appreciated QB for most of the season, but he has the fourth highest QBR and takes on the man he replaced in Week 7 when Peyton Manning and the Broncos come to Indy. The Broncos have given up a staggering 2,026 passing yards through six games and Peyton will have a massive chip on his shoulder. Luck will have to throw a lot to stay in this game.
Prediction: 350 passing yards and 3 TDs. 25 rushing yards and 1 TD.

Other Solid Options: Philip Rivers,  Jay Cutler, Tony Romo and Peyton Manning (Duh).

Quarterbacks: Buy Low

Brandon Weeden: $5,500 : DraftKings - $5,600 : DraftStreet - $10,826
The Browns have a good defense. The Green Bay Packers suddenly find their WR corp decimated. I suspect that Weeden will get a lot of time to toss the ball against a defense that has allowed an average of 294 yards to opposing QBs.
Prediction: 305 yards and 2 TDS.

Thaddeus Lewis: Fanduel - $5,500 : DraftKings - $5,800 : DraftStreet - $9,789
Keep an eye on this gutsy pick. The Miami defense is not as good against the pass as people think, They're currently allowing 288 yards per game. I like Lewis a lot in leagues that require two starting QBs.
Prediction: 270 passing yards and 2 TDs. 30 rushing yards.

Other Solid Options: Eli Manning, Nick Foles and Alex Smith.

Blisters Schmisters

Running Backs: Buy High

Jamaal Charles: Fanduel - $9,800 : DraftKings - $8,500 : DraftStreet - $14,733
Charles is a must start nearly every week, but against the woeful Houston Texans and their cluster of an offense I suspect the Chiefs will dominate the time of possession. Charles will get lots of chances to rip off a big one and see lots of touches. Houston is #1 against the pass, but #26 against the run. The Chiefs are looking to go 7 - 0 and Charles will be a big reason why they get there.
Prediction: 140 rushing yards and 2 TDs. 45 receiving yards.


LeSean McCoy: Fanduel - $9,500 : DraftKings - $8,800 : DraftStreet - $14,478
The season's top runner will continue his domination against Dallas who is middle of the road against the run and near last against the pass. He is a legitimate threat to approach 200 total yards from scrimmage. Buy him and feel proud you did.
Prediction: 105 rushing yards and 1 TD. 80 receiving yards and 1 TD.

Other Solid Options:  Adrian Peterson, Matt Forte and Arian Foster.

Running Backs: Buy Low

Danny Woodhead: Fanduel - $6,100 : DraftKings - $5,200 : DraftStreet - $8,617
This kid can catch and this kid can run. This week he gets the Jaguars who don't know how to stop either. Woodhead has averaged 6 catches a game and I think this is the week he once again finds the end zone. I don't buy Matthews resurgence, but even still there will be plenty to go around.
Prediction: 50 rushing yards and 1 TD. 75 receiving yards and 1 TD.

Brandon Jacobs: Fanduel - $5,500 : DraftKings - $3,900 : DraftStreet - $7,427
Brandon Jacobs, who was the my No Name Stud of the Week last week, was on the couch a few weeks ago and now is a starting RB on a team with a QB who loves to toss interceptions. If Coach Coughlin wants to last the season he'll take the ball from Eli and hand it over and over again to Jacobs.
Prediction: 120 rushing yards and 1 TD.

Other Solid Options:  Eddie Lacy, Steven Ridley and DeAngelo Williams.

What The Hell Was That?: NFL Week 6.

The Fifth Horsemen Strikes

The Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse.

In Biblical lore there are Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. They are Pestilence, Famine, War and Death. Evidently the authors of the Bible did not foresee Fantasy Football otherwise they would have added a Fifth Horseman named Injury.

This week Injury was busy.

DeMarco Murray, Cecil Shorts, Jimmy Graham, Randall Cobb, James Jones, Danny Amendola, Joique Bell, Matt Schaub, Bilal Powell, Calvin Johnson, etc, etc.

These big time players (yes even Mr. Toss A Pick Six Schaub is a major player) all got banged up early and their owners in Week 6. If you had any of them in your lineup you saw your weekly fantasy chances sink and your bank account did not get fatter.

The Ripple Effect of the Fifth Horseman.

Injuries don't just damage the injured players output, but their surrounding cast. Nowhere was this more evident in Week 6 than with Tony Romo. DeMarco Murray has been a staggering good running back this year for the Cowboys and he has allowed Romo to open up the passing game. Once Murray went down Romo's numbers plummeted.

So what should you take from this?

When selecting a QB pay attention to the status of his supporting cast. A sudden change due to injury or suspension can mean a decrease in numbers for any signal caller.

Look for bench players now thrust into the starting lineup on high powered offenses. Green Bay's backup receivers. Dallas' backup running backs. Julian Edelman if Amendola doesn't play. Justin Blackmon regardless of Cecil Shorts status.

What The Hell of the Week: Why Did You Buy Jimmy Graham?

Yup, I'm gonna toot my own horn here a bit. If you listened to me you did not buy Jimmy Graham and you may have won some money in Week 6. That is unless Shorts, Romo, Peyton, G. Graham or DeMarco made it into your in. What can I say but Oops, but then again EVERYONE loved them.

Darth Hoodie Strikes Again

If you listened to the pundits and experts around the fantasy football world who loved Jimmy Graham in Week 6 you lost. The amount he cost ($8,700) for the amount he got you (a big fat 0) was insurmountable.

I warned you. Why didn't you listen? Evidently a staggering amount of Fanduel.com players don't pay attention to history. The Patriot's always take away a teams best player. It can be counted on almost as much as a slow motion Belichick scowl. Aqib Talib (also injured) was a beast on Graham, who has arguably been the fantasy MVP this season. Initial reports suggest he won't miss too much time, but keep an eye on the injury wire as the week progresses.

No Name Stud of The Week: Brandon Jacobs

Brandon Jacobs has a name, but it hasn't been relevant in years.  That is until Thursday against the Bears when he ran 22 times for 106 yards and 2 TDs and added a reception for 8 yards. FRom couch to stud. Will he continue or is it a fluke? As long as David Wilson's wonky neck keeps him out Jacobs has value. However, Giants Week 7 opponent, the Vikings, are ninth best against the run. Buy low for now, maybe.

How'd I Do?: Week 6 NFL Fanduel Edition.

Wah! I Miss You DeMarco.

Who would have thought that Romo and Peyton would combine for a measly 24.9 in Fanduel.com points after scoring a crapload against each other in Week 5? If you went with any of my optimized lineup for Week 6 you most certainly didn't forsee that outcome.

Add in the Cecil Shorts and DeMarco Murray (Jimmy Graham if you didn't listen to me) injuries and your Week 6 Fanduel.com plays probably ended with you in the middle of the pack.

The painful part is that Murray at least was on pace for a great game, which would have helped Romo and Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams and Dan Bailey who all helped sink my chances.

Can you believe that I almost went with Justin Blackmon, who cost $100 less who proved, in theory at least, that Shorts was a good play by stepping out and catching 14 balls for 190n yards.

OK, whine-fest is over.

I did call Jimmy Graham's bad day, if not a big ol' goose egg, and I am truly surprised that I seemed to be in the extreme minority there. The Pats always take the opponents best player away. Did you think they were gonna stop Colston? To add injury to insult Graham injured his leg. Watch twitter to see what his condition is.

Other Hits: Knowhson Moreno was huge. OMG the Kansas City Chiefs D is sick. Use them every week. Julius Thomas continues to be the Fanduel's second best TE.

Other Misses: Garret Graham has Houston's QBs tossing it. Nuff said. T. Willams, D. Bryant.

QB Analysis
Tony Romo had a better performance on Fanduel.com than any other QB and he did that against the Broncos. This week the Redskins and their bad, bad defense come to Dallas and Romo is going to enjoy the day. Start him and get 3+ TDs.

RB Anaylsis
Moreno has finally taken the load in Denver (for now) and he's going against the soon to be demoted to the Canadian Football League (ala the English Premier League) Jaguars. I suspect that the Broncos will be up huge and that the second half will feature a lot of garbage time points for Moreno.

I Love Danny Woodhead. He is a powerhouse little scamp and with perennially disappointing Ryan Matthews unlikely to play, Woodhead will need to take up the slack if the Chargers hope to beat The Colts. Even if they don't Woodhead will see nice numbers.

WR Analysis
In my Standard Week 6 lineup I was forced to pick lower priced WRs. With the extra $5,000 I had to spend in the Beginner leagues I chose to upgrade this position.

Terrance Williams almost made my roster last week. I went with Broyles and paid for it. I won't make the same mistake again. Dallas will have to throw against the Colts and with Miles Austin still out and Dez Bryant seeing a lot of attention, expect Williams to see the end zone again.

Cecil Shorts is far to good to be on the Jaguars. Yet, despite this career handicap, Shorts has put up great numbers. With Henne playing Shorts will be the go to guy against Denver. They'll have to throw and a lot to keep this game even vaguely close. Lotsa garbage time plays.

T.Y. Hilton is making Colts fans look back in time. 2013 looks surprisingly like the year that Reggie Wayne surpassed Colts legend Marvin Harrison with Hilton playing the Wayne role. Hilton and Luck have become fast friends and this bromance will only grow stronger against the Cowboys who had a mega-shootout against the Broncos last week.

TE Analysis
This is the first week that I am NOT going with Jimmy Graham. Partly because I paid a lot at other positions and partly because of the match up. The Patriots are masters of taking away an opponents best player. On the Saints that player is Jimmy Graham. He may still be a stud, but I don't see him blowing up, especially since I suspect the Saints will run t the ball against a suddenly vulnerable New England run defense.

Julius Thomas has been a monster for Peyton and while you can never predict who will catch TDs in this offense, the Broncos love to use him in the red zone. Expect the big numbers to continue.

K Analysis
Dan Bailey will get a chance to kick a lot. He is accurate and will give you a nice stat line this week.

D Analysis
The Jets have a solid offense and the Steelers have a solid nothing much. A solid $5,000 option this week.
